We are delighted to say that the Cragmore track in Co. Limerick was the setting for a piece of racing history last Sunday when OceanFeed sponsored Jockey Derek O’Connor became the first jockey to ride 1,000 point-to-point winners in Ireland.
The Galway jockey reached the landmark onboard Death Duty in the opening four-year-old maiden. The talented jockey completed the day in style when adding wins onboard Air Command and Kilty Caul later in the day.
Naturally O’Connor was thrilled to reach the milestone as noted in The Irish Times:
“I’m thrilled to reach the milestone,” said O’Connor. “People have been so kind: there has been an unbelievable amount of well-wishers.”
O’Connor carried the colours of Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown Stud on Death Duty, who won by 15 lengths. Great credit goes to one of Derek’s most loyal supporters in the form of trainer Pat Doyle who has played a huge role on many of Derek’s victories.
Congratulations Derek and best of luck for the future and we hope our relationship continues for many more years!
